The Lagos State Government has said that over 737,340 traffic violations were recorded and 16,939 vehicles seized for contravening the road traffic law across major highways in the state in 2025.
The State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, made this known on Monday while briefing newsmen on the activities of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration performance within the last one year.
The commissioner stated that the statistics indicated vehicles captured through the Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera system for contravening the traffic law within the period under review, noting that "this statistics demonstrated our increased digital surveillance and intelligent traffic enforcement capabilities."
According to him, a breakdown of the statistics showed that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) seized 6,791 private vehicles while 10,148 commercial buses operating on major roads were affected.
Osiyemi added that 3,975 vehicles were booked for traffic infractions after breaking down suddenly on major highways within the period under review, saying that to prevent this occurrence, a total of 1.1 million vehicles were issued certificate after undergoing roadworthy test.
The commissioner stressed that the vehicles were made to undergo the test to reinforce compliance with vehicle safety standards across the state.
Aside from that, he disclosed that the Sanwo-Olu administration had concluded plans to begin issuing its own drivers’ license to motorists, amid rising traffic infractions on major roads.
He stated that the drivers’ license issuance would be done in collaboration with the Federal Government; to give drivers unrestricted access to roads across the country.
According to him, the drivers’ license, just like the number plate issuance, under the law can be done by the state in collaboration with the Federal Government.
