The Adebayo-Bugaje Social Democratic Party (SDP) Presidential Campaign has announced the immediate suspension of all its national and state campaign activities for one week, saying that the decision was taken in honour of victims of the tragic Nigerian Air Force (NAF) ATR-42 aircraft which crashed in Igbokoda, Ondo State.

This was made known in a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja by Comrade Mark Adebayo, Head of the Media and Communications Directorate for the campaign, saying that the decision was also a gesture of unalloyed solidarity with the Nigerian Air Force and the entire Armed Forces of Nigeria during this period of immense national grief.

The Adebayo-Bugaje Presidential Campaign expressed deep concern over what it described as the heartbreaking news of the NAF aircraft accident, sadly noting that the affected fallen heroes and civilians gave their all in service to their fatherland, even as it added that in moments of such monumental national tragedy, politics must take a backseat to national mourning and deep reflection."

The campaign's presidential flagbearer, Prince Adewole Adebayo, and his running mate, Professor Usman Bugaje, extended their profound condolences to the Chief of the Air Staff (COAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, the leadership of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), and the families of the victims.

"The Adebayo-Bugaje Presidential Campaign is deeply devastated by the heartbreaking news of the NAF aircraft accident in the coastal riverine terrain of Igbokoda. These fallen heroes and civilians gave their all in service to our fatherland. In moments of such monumental national tragedy, politics must take a backseat to national mourning and deep reflection.

"The campaign's presidential flagbearer, Prince Adewole Adebayo, and his running mate, Professor Usman Bugaje, extended their profound condolences to the Chief of the Air Staff, the leadership of the Nigerian Air Force, and the families of the victims.

"We stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Nigerian Air Force and the families left behind," the statement stated.

"We pray that the Almighty grants fortitude to the bereaved families and comfort to a grieving nation as we navigate this painful loss," it prayed.

The statement, while noting that all scheduled rallies, town halls, stakeholder meetings, and media engagements across the country under the Adebayo-Bugaje Presidential Campaign banner remain deferred until the one-week mourning period is concluded, however, restated the campaign's call for a Comprehensive insurance Policy for all personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies for the humongous sacrifices they were making for the country.

The campaign also called for  proper and constant maintenance of all military equipment with a view to reducing the frequency of air crashes and other avoidable mishaps.
