The President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Dr. Kadir Obafemi Hazmat door to door campaign Movement was launched in Lagos on Tuesday with the National Coordinator of the Movement, Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), charging members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and members of the movement to mobilize support for Tinubu and ensure that he gets very impressive votes from the state.
Tompolo, who was represented by High Chief Kestin Pondi, MD, Tantota Security,
also donated 57 buses to ease movement to the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of the state.
Speaking at a rally held at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, Tompolo charged APC members to go to every nook and cranny of the state to sell the candidature of Tinubu to the electorate, explaining that the president deserved a second term, to allow him consolidate on the good programmes he had started, just as he emphasised that he needed more support from Lagos which is his state of origin.
Tompolo charged Lagosians to go and knock on the doors of their neighbours and convince them, why Tinubu should be voted for, for a second term in office, just as he urged people of the state not to disgrace the president as they did in 2023 by not voting for him.
"Come out in large numbers to vote for Asiwaju, Lagos should not be put to shame, show your support for Tinubu," he said.
He, however, charged the electorate to get their voters card, saying "it is only when they have it that they are eligible to vote."
Speaking in the same vein, the Director General of the Door to Door Movement,
Dr Dennis Otuaro, who is also the National Coordinator, Amnesty Programme, said they came to Lagos to give President Tinubu's re election a boost.
"We came to support our president, why are we saying that Nigerians should support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he is the architect of the reform in Lagos State that we are all enjoying and Lagos State is the city for every Nigerian," he said.
Otuaro said President Tinubu had been addressing most of the things Nigerians were agitating for like restructuring and reforming the system, recalling that the president started reforming when he was governor of Lagos State.
"By 2007 when he was leaving Lagos State, the state had already become the envy of other states in Nigeria.
"As at today, he has a bigger responsibility, responsibility that is more tasking, the development of Federal Republic of Nigeria. When you come to Abuja, you see the city has been turned round.
"What he has done in Lagos we want to encourage him to do so for us in Nigeria. What he is doing for us in Nigeria by making more allocation available to the governors, you can see our governors are not owing salaries, you can see our governors embark on projects, every good things you see your governor is doing it is because President Tinubu's reform is working.
"How do we encourage this reform, how do we ensure the reforms are consolidated? We need to give him more four years.
"That is why we started this door to door movement, knock on the doors of the houses of those that are close to you, knock on the door of people you think will criticize you, tell them of Tinubu's plan for Nigeria. Tell them he is going to make Nigeria great. Listen to their pleas, listen to their worry and encourage them, let us vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, let us move Nigeria forward for more consolidation" Otuaro said.
Welcoming the leadership of the movement to the state, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu appreciated the movement's support for re electing President Tinubu and APC candidates
"We want to thank the Door-to-Door Movement, we want to thank you at very short notice that we can all rally round this campaign of door-to-door for PBAT and of course, our own candidate as well in Lagos, Dr. Kadir Obafemi Hamzat," he said.
Governor Sanwo-Olu said Lagos had always been providing leadership position for the party and would continue to provide that leadership position.
"We are at the front, we are in front, we have shown leadership. We will continue to show leadership. I want to thank the leaders of the door-to-door movement, they have also come here to ensure that the mobility of each of the coordinators are also not challenged. 57 buses will also be given to each of the local government coordinators, just to ensure that there is movement. Let's give them a big round of applause for that as well." Sanwo-Olu said.
The governor urged members of the party in the state, to give the door-to-door movement a boost by taking the campaign to all nooks and crannies of the state.
"Go to all nooks and crannies of the state, you will touch every hamlet, every community, every CDC, every CDA. So go out there, convince your religious followers, convince your party faithfuls, convince your Community Development Association, convince your CDC. All of the various associations that you are in, convince all of them that indeed it's important for all of us to come out in January and support the re-election of Asiwaju, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
"Don't let all those other funny people come and deceive you, they have no plan for you, they have no agenda for you. They've been going from one party to another. Some of them in three years, they have moved to four parties, you can see that there's no consistency in them. They don't know what it is to have, even to run a party, they don't, how can they say they want to run a nation?" he questioned.
Earlier in his welcome speech, the APC Chairman in Lagos State, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, said he was delighted to receive members of the movement to Lagos State, just as he appreciated them for the support for Tinubu re-election and support for all APC candidates.
"We thank you for physical support you have demonstrated, those here will go to their wards, local government areas to start working for the party's success. There is need to re elect the president to consolidate on his achievements," Ojelabi said.
