First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, on Saturday urged Lagosians to be patient with the state government as efforts are ongoing to solve the waste challenges facing the state.
Sanwo-Olu spoke while taking part in the monthly sanitation exercise at Mafoluku, Oshodi/Isolo local government alongside officers from the Ministry of Environment, Lagos State Waste Management (LAWMA) and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu.
The team visited Ajibulu Street, Oluyeye Street, Olowora Street, Eweje Lane, Ayinde Street and Ola-Ore Street.
“My plea to Lagosians is to be patient. It is a work in progress. We are all working towards ensuring that we keep Lagos clean, and I hope that with this reminder and the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, they will remember the importance of keeping our environment clean,” she said.
She also advocated for sorting of wastes, saying its importance cannot be overemphasised.
“We noticed that we need to advocate more on this because some of the waste we saw today included bottles, dry waste, and wet waste.
"We need to separate them so that when they are picked up, it will be easier to sort and manage them. Those are some of the things that we are focusing on as we continue our efforts to keep Lagos clean,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
