Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has assured residents and visitors to the state of sustained efforts to strengthen security ahead of the end-of-year festivities and increased activities across the state.
Governor Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance on Tuesday, in a statement by the State Commissioner for Information & Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, copy of which was made available to newsmen, after meeting with security chiefs at the State House, Marina, Lagos, where he received briefings on security activities and plans to further strengthen the state’s security architecture.
The governor said his administration would not relent in its efforts to prevent criminal activities and ensure the safety of residents and visitors.
“We will not relent on our efforts to ensure that criminals don’t find a place for their evil activities in our state,” Sanwo-Olu said.
The meeting was attended by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Fatai; Commander, 9 Brigade, Ikeja, Brig. Gen. A.O. Owolabi; Commander, NNS Beecroft, Commodore A. Adams-Aliu; Commander, 651 Base Services Group, Ikeja, Air Commodore M.A. Imam; and Executive Secretary, Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan.
Also present were the Chief of Staff (COS) to the Governor, Tayo Ayinde; Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abimbola Hundeyin; and Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of the State, Lawal Pedro.
The state government said the meeting was particularly important as Lagos prepares for increased human and vehicular movement associated with the Yuletide season.
Lagos is also expected to host President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from September 29, while several religious, cultural and other public activities are scheduled to take place across the state.
Political activities are also expected to increase following the announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that campaigns may commence, adding to the need for enhanced security coordination.
The Governor Sanwo-Olu's meeting with the security chiefs was, therefore, focused on reviewing existing security operations and preparing for the increased activities expected in Lagos in the coming months.
