Lagos State Deputy Governor/Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, have called on Lagosians, particularly residents of Surulere Federal Constituency, to re-elect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and vote for all candidates of APC in the 2027 General Elections in the state.
The duo, who spoke at the Constituency Outreach, tagged: "2026 Gbaja Mega Empowerment," held at the National Stadium, Surulere on Saturday, appealed to residents to participate actively in the electoral process and ensure they vote for the party at all levels in the forthcoming election to sustain the various people-oriented programmes already in place in the country.
Hamzat, in his address, said the APC had grown into the dominant political party in the country through sustained engagement with the people and its grassroots structures, emphasizing that the party’s strength lies in its ability to connect directly with citizens and respond to their needs through various initiatives and empowerment programmes.
According to the deputy governor, “We must thank Hon. Gbaja for this initiative. What we are doing here today is what our party understands: that our service as political leaders is to serve and empower our citizens. It is about relating with our citizens. So how do we say thank you to him for this? It is by voting massively for the candidates of our party.”
Speaking on the empowerment, Hamzat described it as part of efforts by political leaders and elected representatives to bring government closer to the people, noting that political parties should not only seek electoral support from the people but also remain connected to the communities they represent.
Also in his remarks, the Chief of Staff, Hon. Gbajabiamila, disclosed that the empowerment was deliberately designed as part of efforts to give back to society and create sustainable opportunities for beneficiaries.
While reeling out the various heartwarming and people-oriented programmes initiated and executed by the President Tinubu administration since inception, the Chief of Staff called on the constituents to ensure that they return the president to power in 2027 and also vote for all APC candidates in the state for continuity and sustainable development.
Gbajabiamila disclosed that about 5000 residents benefitted from the 2026 Gbaja Mega Empowerment, with 4018 beneficiaries receiving cash gifts of N250,000 each; another 348 beneficiaries received N500,000 each as cash support.
"This programme provides 61 electric vehicles, 50 electric tricycles, 60 mini-buses, 100 laptops, four 18-seater Toyota Hiace buses, two security patrol vehicles and a medical ambulance, among other items for the beneficiaries whom we select based on merit in all the wards across Surulere,” he said.
The Chief of Staff assured Surulere residents that as long as he remains in public service, he would continue to support and empower the people of his constituency through various initiatives.
He, therefore, urged the beneficiaries of the empowerment to take ownership of the items and ensure that they use them for the betterment of themselves and their community, and should not sell them.
In his goodwill message, the Senator representing Lagos Central Senatorial District, Senator Wasiu Esinlokun-Sanni, commended the Gbaja Empowerment Initiative, noting that the benefits being provided to the people of Surulere through the empowerment programme are part of efforts being made to improve the welfare of residents and create opportunities that could support individuals and small businesses.
Also in his goodwill message, the Chairman, Lagos State All Progressives Congress, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, who was represented by the Director-General PBAT-KOH 2027 Campaign Council, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, urged beneficiaries of the empowerment programme to ensure that the items and support received were put to productive use and translated into meaningful benefits for their families and the wider community.
While describing the empowerment programme as laudable, he described the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila, as an uncommon talent whose passion for the welfare and wellbeing of the people is immeasurable, adding that such contributions should be recognised and supported.
In his welcome address, the Executive Chairman of Surulere Local Government, Hon. Suliaman Bamidele Yusuf, described the initiative as a demonstration of the Chief of Staff’s commitment to reducing poverty, creating wealth and improving the livelihoods of residents.
While appreciating the Hon. Gbajabiamila for the support and initiatives that had continued to impact positively on residents of the local government, Yusuf said the presentation of NELA electric cars, mini-buses, tricycles, cash support for small businesses, security vehicles, laptops and other empowerment items to beneficiaries is a practical demonstration of the government’s commitment to poverty reduction and wealth creation.
The council boss reaffirmed the local government’s commitment to effective governance and service delivery, stressing the importance of informed participation and the exercise of their civic responsibilities, even as he urged residents to support the government committed to delivering democratic dividends and advancing the interests of the people.
