Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has charged members of the management of South West Development Commission to live up to expectations by bringing meaningful development to the zone, saying that was the essence of creating the commission.
Governor Sanwo-Olu gave the charge when members of management of the commission led by its chairman, Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi, paid him a courtesy visit on Thursday, at the State House, Alausa, Ikeja.
Sanwo-Olu, who is the Chairman of South West Governors' Forum, said he and other South West governors would collaborate and work with the commission to ensure resources were available for the commission to work with.
The governor urged the commission to ensure that available resources were well utilized, just as it reminded the commission that her objective should not be at variance with the national interest.
He charged the commission to be up and doing by swinging into action immediately, adding: "You can fastrack, you don't have to work for a number of years to achieve what you need to achieve."
The governor, while challenging them to compete with other commissions across the country, by comparing notes with them and reciprocating any good project executed in other region, assured that he would do whatever he can do to ensure the commission is not lagging behind.
"Whatever I can do to ensure the commission does not fall behind in the comity of commissions, I will do it, because to fall behind is an embarrassment. We are here to help make life better, we have to charged you, because it is a commission that has peer review, you cannot afford not to do well," Sanwo-Olu said.
Responding to the commission's request that the South West governors should serve as advisory committee to it, Sanwo-Olu described it is as a welcome development, saying that he would pass the message to his colleagues.
He also assured the commission that the state government would provide an office for it that would serve as a liaison office, and also render all necessary assistance that would make it succeed.
Senator Adetunmbi, in his remark, said the delegation decided to visit Governor Sanwo-Olu, being the Chairman of the South West Governors' Forum, to look at areas the Forum can collaborate with the commission.
While fielding questions from journalists after the visit, Adetunmbi said:
"The purpose of this visit is to extend courtesies to the governor of Lagos State as the Chairman of South West Governors' Forum.
"I will tell you it is a good starting point for the commission to familiarize itself with the managers of the states in the South West starting from Lagos.
"In the course of our interaction, we are able to explain areas we need assistance, which is to bring development to South West, working in collaboration, cooperation with the states that made up the zone.
"I believe this is a good starting point and the governor assured the commission and together with the collective support of the South West States to work together for it to solve problems in the interest of the people of south West."
