The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by two weeks, moving the deadline from July 10 to July 24, 2026, to accommodate eligible Nigerians yet to register.
National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, disclosed this in a statement, made available to newsmen, saying that the decision followed a review of the exercise and feedback from state offices, political parties, civil society groups, and other stakeholders nationwide.
According to the Commission, the exercise, which began on August 18, 2025, was initially scheduled to end on July 10, 2026, but noted that the extension is aimed at ensuring broader inclusion in the national voters’ register ahead of upcoming elections.
INEC also announced the introduction of a self-service online registration platform for first-time voters, set to go live on July 8, 2026, via its CVR portal, cvr.inecnigeria.org.
The electoral Umpire said the new system would allow eligible Nigerians to complete their voter registration, including biometric capture, using personal devices without visiting physical registration centres.
INEC added that the platform had been designed with identity verification and biometric safeguards to ensure data integrity.
It, therefore, urged eligible citizens, who are yet to register, to take advantage of the extended window and the new digital option, reaffirming its commitment to a more inclusive, accessible, and technology-driven electoral process.
