In a remarkable display of community vigilance and swift action, members of the Oodua People's Congress (OPC) have successfully rescued a kidnapped victim in the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State.
OPC, led by Iba Gani Adams, through its Shoba Zone, Abule-Ado Command, successfully rescued the kidnapped woman at Igbo-Togba, Calabar Village. Though the kidnappers escaped, the victim was safely recovered.
Speaking on the rescue, Co-ordinator of OPC in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, Oluwasegun Adetokunbo, disclosed that the operation was led by OPC Zonal Coordinator in Abule Ado, Akeem Lawan, together with some Hausa people living in the community.
Adetokunbo said its members acted promptly upon receiving information about the kidnap, adding that the proactive efforts of the OPC operatives doused tension and restored peace in the community, while no ransom was paid.

The OPC coordinator noted that the rescue operation was carried out with minimal confrontation, as the kidnappers fled leaving behind the victim who had been tied with ropes.
Following the rescue, the victim was handed over to the Alado of Abule-Ado, His Royal Majesty, Oba Adisa Surajudeen, who reportedly invited the police to take over the case.
According to eyewitnesses, the victim had been abducted days earlier by unknown assailants and taken into Togba.
In the aftermath of the rescue, residents of Amuwo-Odofin have expressed gratitude to OPC members for their courage and dedication, urging continued vigilance and cooperation between security agencies and community groups to prevent future incidents.
The OPC, known for its role in community security and protection in Southwestern Nigeria, continues to collaborate with local authorities and residents to combat crime and enhance safety in the region.
Publicity Secretary of OPC, Barrister Yinka Oguntimehin, in his remark, noted that the successful rescue of the kidnap victim underscores the importance of community-based initiatives in addressing security challenges.
Oguntimehin stressed that the incident also highlights the critical role that community-based security organisations like the OPC play in complementing formal state security efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens.
