President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday assured Nigerians that his administration is committed to investing in infrastructure, strengthening governance and expanding opportunities for all.
President Tinubu gave the assurance in Lagos, during a state visit after commissioning of projects executed by the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, which includes the Opebi Link Bridge to Ojota, Multi-Agency Building named after him and the Electronic Geographical Information System E-GIS Office in Alausa.
Present at the event were Governors Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Douye Diri (Bayelsa), Hope Uzodinma (Imo) and Babagana Zulum (Borno).
The president, who was represented by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, said those projects aligned with his administration's national vision in a Nigeria that is modern, digitally enabled and economically strong.
"A Nigeria that is modern, digitally enabled and economically strong. This is the standard we must replicate across the country from Governor Sanwo-Olu and his administration," Tinubu said.
The president noted that the Multi-Agency Building in Alausa would strengthen inter-agency collaboration and improve public service delivery, while the Lagos State Electronic Geographic Information Service (E-GIS) facility would modernise land administration and geospatial data management in the state.
Tinubu noted that a modern land administration system is not optional but essential as It reduces uncertainty, strengthens planning, while it also unlocks all economic values, adding: "This is how serious societies grow."
President Tinubu further added that the 5.04-kilometre Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time for commuters within the Ikeja axis, and enhance economic productivity.
The president, however, commended Lagos State governor and his team for their focus and discipline, saying that they had shown that governance must be about service delivery.
"I want to commend Governor Sanwo-Olu the Governor of Lagos, and his team for their focus and discipline in financial management. You have shown that governance must be about service delivery," he said.
Speaking earlier, Governor Sanwo-Olu said his administration had just fewer days left, pointing out that it is better his administration leaves the state better than it met it.
"We have just a little over 400 days left – 416 to be precise – before we hand over the baton of governance, out of the 2,922 days that the good people of Lagos entrusted to us.
"For the past 2,500 days, we have worked and toiled for Lagos State, to leave it better than we met it – and have done so by looking up to the excellent model and legacy of a leader who discharged a similar responsibility long before us, and set defining standards that have stood the test of time," he said.
Sanwo-Olu added that the decision to name the multi agency office complex after Tinubu was both deliberate and symbolic.
According to him, it reflects the state's recognition of the president's enduring contributions to the growth and institutional development of Lagos State as well as "his role in laying the foundation for the progress we continue to build on even today."
