Lagos State chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has hailed Former President Goodluck Jonathan over visit to Lagos to grace the maiden edition of the International Deep Sea Port Investment Forum (IDSIF), saying that the visit transcended routine economic engagement, but also evolved into a symbolic convergence of political legacy, party solidarity, and renewed hope for Nigeria’s democratic future.
Lagos PDP said this in a statement, titled: "Jonathan’s Lagos visit: A quiet reunion of statesmen and a subtle call to national reawakening," issued by its spokesperson, Dr. Christopher Odianarewo, copy of which was made available to newsmen, noting that the high profile event, held on Monday at Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, and hosted by Shipping World Magazine, drew together key stakeholders in maritime investment, economic policy, and national development.
According to Odianarewo, former President Jonathan, upon arrival, was warmly received by the former Deputy National Chairman of PDP, Chief Olabode, who chaired the occasion, underscoring his enduring relevance in Nigeria’s maritime architecture and his unwavering commitment to the ideals of deep sea port investment.
"Also present to receive the former President at the Airport was the Lagos State PDP leadership, ably led by the State Chairman, Amos Fawole, alongside members of the State Executive Committee and a large assembly of dedicated party faithfuls.
"Their presence was not merely ceremonial. it was emblematic of a party resolute in unity, even in the face of prevailing national and political headwinds," he said.
The PDP spokesperson, while reflecting on former President Jonathan's call at the parley on investors and participants to remain steadfast, focused, and committed to democratic values despite the challenges confronting the nation, said that "his message, though measured, carried unmistakable political undertones, a subtle but firm reminder that resilience, patience, and principled leadership remain the bedrock of sustainable governance."
"In a time when Nigeria grapples with economic uncertainties and shifting political dynamics, his (Jonathan) presence alone served as a reassurance that experience, vision, and national interest must continue to guide the discourse.
"Former President Jonathan’s Lagos visit reflects an emerging recalibration within the opposition space, a quiet consolidation of voices and ideals aimed at repositioning the PDP as a credible and formidable force in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape," he stated.
"Beyond politics, the IDSIF itself highlighted the strategic importance of deep sea port investments as catalysts for economic transformation, trade expansion, and regional competitiveness. Yet, as the day unfolded, it became evident that the convergence of political heavyweights added a deeper narrative, one that speaks to unity, continuity, and the enduring spirit of democratic engagement.
"Indeed, Lagos bore witness not just to a forum, but to a moment, one where the past met the present, and perhaps, subtly, began to shape the future," he added.
