Kano State Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam, on Friday resigned from office, saying that the decision to resign from office was taken in the overall interest of the state and to ensure stability in governance.
This was made known in a statement issued by spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed.
According to the statement, Abdussalam’s resignation followed recent political developments in the state, including impeachment proceedings initiated by the Kano State House of Assembly.
It would be recalled that a Federal High Court sitting in Kano had earlier declined an application by the deputy governor seeking to halt the impeachment process.
"The Kwankwasiyya Movement wishes to formally inform the general public, the good people of Kano State, and the entire nation that the Deputy Governor of Kano State has tendered his resignation from office,” the statement read.
It added that the decision, though difficult, was taken in the overall interest of the state and to ensure stability in governance.
The movement stressed that the resignation does not amount to an admission of the allegations levelled against Abdussalam, insisting that he remained committed to his integrity and record of public service.
The movement describing the move as an act of statesmanship, noting that it was aimed at preserving peace and avoiding political tension in the state.
It further disclosed that Abdussalam would now focus on strengthening the Kwankwasiyya Movement ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
The movement urged residents of Kano State to remain calm and law-abiding, while further updates were expected.
