Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has urged the state’s civil servants to be honest, caring, and understand their roles and the administrative tenacity of being a public servant.
The deputy governor gave the advice Monday, at the 60th Birthday and Retirement Thanksgiving Service of the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Mobolaji Mojisola Daba, held at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa-Ikeja, describing the retiree as an embodiment of honesty, integrity, and professionalism.
In his words, "You need to be very busy. You should be honest, caring, fair, and understand your role. You need to understand the system, the service, the protocol, and the administrative tenacities of being a public servant."
Speaking further, Hamzat stated that the retired permanent secretary remained a shining example to active civil servants, adding that she is a woman of integrity who is committed to her duties.
"She is a very good person. She cares about everybody that she works with. She's a very intelligent person. She takes her job seriously. She's very humble. She is also very honest. She is a woman of integrity. When she says yes, it is a yes. I will miss her, but I will still relate to her," Hamzat said.
Speaking further, the deputy governor noted that the Lagos State Public Service is one of the best public services in the world, adding that the Service is composed, organised, disciplined, comprising dedicated civil servants who remained committed to professionalism, integrity, and the effective delivery of government policies and programmes for the benefit of the people.
He emphasized that their unwavering commitment, institutional knowledge, and passion for service continued to drive the progress and development of Lagos State.
In his remarks, the Head of Service (HOS), Mr. Olabode Agoro, described the celebrant as a people-centric and compassionate individual who showed motherly love and care to everyone that came across her in the state public service.
"As an administrator and human resource professional, she exhibited utmost discipline, undiluted dedication, unwavering commitment, and uncommon courage to navigate the complexities of the state public service. The result of which led to her appointment as the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Deputy Governor,' Agoro said.
In her response, the retiree, Mrs. Mobolaji Mojisola Daba, expressed gratitude to God for the grace and privilege of a fulfilling career in the public service.
Daba urged civil servants to always remain at the top of their game, stressing the need to be knowledgeable, proactive, and fully understand the purpose and responsibilities of the public service, which is ultimately centred on serving the people.
She further emphasised that work ethics must be consciously taught and upheld in every workplace, noting that civil servants must be guided by strong ethical values, professionalism, and integrity in the discharge of their duties in order to sustain the credibility and effectiveness of the Service.
Rev. Dr. Adele Ajayi, in his sermon, advised the retiree to remain grateful to God for the grace to witness a new season in life, emphasizing that retirement marked the close of one chapter and the beginning of another.
The cleric admonished her to see the ability in this new phase of life, stressing that the retiree still had the strength, experience, and divine support to pursue new opportunities and continue making a meaningful impact.
"it is with great joy that you embrace a new season ahead of you because it is a chapter that is closed. Retirement would also provide more time for family and community service, expressing confidence that the new season would be one of fruitfulness and flourishing," he said.
