Eid-el-Fitri: LASTMA GM, Bakare-Oki felicitates Muslim faithful

As Muslims in Lagos State and beyond prepare to celebrate the sacred festival of Eid-el-Fitr, the General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, has extended his warm felicitations, urging the faithful to sustain the virtues of discipline, patience and civic responsibility cultivated during the holy month of Ramadan.

Bakare-Oki, in a goodwill message marking the occasion, copy of which was made available to newsmen by the LASTMA spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, 

commended the Muslim Ummah for their spiritual devotion, resilience and moral uprightness throughout the fasting period. 

The LASTMA boss emphasised that these commendable qualities should not end with the season but should be reflected in daily conduct, particularly in maintaining orderliness and respect for traffic regulations on the state’s roads.

Bakare-Oki, however, reaffirmed the Authority’s firm commitment to enforcing traffic laws, stressing that there would be zero tolerance for all forms of traffic violations before, during, and after the festive period.

He enjoined motorists, commercial drivers and other road users to avoid reckless driving, illegal parking, route violations, unauthorised off-loading, driving against traffic (one-way) and other unsafe practices that could endanger lives and disrupt traffic flow.

"While we celebrate this important occasion, all road users must exercise caution and strictly adhere to traffic rules. LASTMA will not tolerate any action that puts lives at risk or hinders the free flow of traffic," he stated.

The LASTMA GM further assured residents and visitors that the Authority had put in place a comprehensive and well-coordinated traffic management plan to ensure smooth vehicular movement across major roads and busy areas within the state.

He disclosed that personnel had been strategically deployed to key locations, including highways, major junctions and areas expected to witness increased socio-religious activities in order to prevent congestion and respond swiftly to any traffic-related issues.

Bakare-Oki added that LASTMA officials would maintain round-the-clock monitoring and traffic control operations, working closely with other security and emergency agencies to ensure safety, maintain order and minimise traffic disruptions during the celebrations.

He, therefore called on all Lagosians to cooperate with traffic officials, remain patient and comply with road safety rules, noting that collective responsibility was essential for achieving a safe and efficient transport system.

"As we celebrate with our Muslim brothers and sisters, we urge all residents to prioritise safety, respect authority and contribute to a peaceful and congestion-free environment," he said.

"The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority remains committed to delivering effective traffic management services, especially during peak and festive periods, in line with its vision of ensuring a safer and more efficient transportation system in Lagos," he added.
