The All Progressives Congress (APC) has re-elected Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda as its National Chairman, while all members of the National Working Committee (NWC) party were also returned through a consensus and affirmative voice vote.
Yilwatda and all NWC members of the NWC were re-elected at the party’s 8th National Convention held in Abuja on Friday.
Members of the NWC re-elected include Deputy National Chairman (North), Ali Dalori; Deputy National Chairman (South), Emma Eneukwu; National Secretary, Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru; National Financial Secretary, Alhaji Bashir Gumel; and National Legal Adviser, Murtala Kankia, among others.
The newly elected officials were immediately sworn in and will steer the party’s affairs for the next four years.
Yilwatda, in his acceptance speech, pledged that the NWC would provide purposeful leadership and work towards rebuilding Nigeria under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He said the NWC mission was to build a pan-African and pan-Nigerian party that is stronger, more transparent, inclusive, disciplined and united than ever before.
“Our mission is clear: together, we will build a pan-African and pan-Nigerian party that is stronger, more transparent, inclusive, disciplined and united than ever before,” he said.
The party chairman added that APC would deepen internal democracy to ensure every member was heard while strengthening its structures to earn the trust of all stakeholders.
He commended President Tinubu for his leadership and continued support for APC, noting that the future of the party is closely tied to Nigeria’s progress under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
This was just as he noted that the ongoing economic reforms were already stabilising public finances, alongside increased investment in infrastructure, such as roads, rail, and energy, as well as expanded social programs to support vulnerable citizens and promote digital innovation.
“I accept this responsibility with a full appreciation for the weight of history, the expectations of our people, and the urgency of the moment.
“This is not a ceremonial crown but a duty that carries the trust of millions of our members.
“From today, the burden of leadership across every ward, state and corner of this nation rests on our shoulders," he assured.
Speaking further, Yilwatda also pledged to run an open and inclusive administration, expressing confidence that the APC would secure victory in the 2027 General Elections.
According to him, the party leadership will broaden its reach to ensure the message of Renewed Hope resonates in every community, saying that it would empower the nation's youth, "who are not only the future but a vital part of our present."
