2027: Group endorses PDP’s Laja Adeoye for Lagos guber race

A group, under the aegis of Lagos for Prosperity Group (LPG), has endorsed a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Laja Adeoye, as its preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Lagos State.

LPG as a coalition of progressive citizens, including youths, entrepreneurs, business leaders, mobilisers, and community advocates committed to inclusive growth.

LPG spokesman, Kazeem Oshodi, made this known in a statement issued on Sunday, describing the move as a sign of growing political momentum for change ahead of the poll.

Oshodi said Adeoye, who had already thrown himself into the race, possesses the capacity to challenge the long-standing dominance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, adding that his emergence would usher in a new phase of development.

According to him, Adeoye's endorsement was arrived after careful assessment of the current state of affairs in Lagos, adding that the PDP guber aspirant represents "fresh, innovative, and people-centred leadership" capable of driving inclusive and transformative prosperity for residents.

This was just as he highlighted Adeoye’s background as an entrepreneur, real estate developer, and political strategist, noting his understanding of Lagos’ economic landscape.

"After careful assessment of the current state of affairs in Lagos, LPG unequivocally endorses Prince Laja Adeoye as the next governor of Lagos State in 2027.

"Adeoye represents fresh, innovative, and people-centred leadership capable of driving inclusive and transformative prosperity for residents," he said.

Speaking further, LPG spokesman, Oshodi, said the group had resolved to mobilise support across political, social, and economic divides to secure Adeoye’s victory in the election.

While acknowledging ongoing infrastructure efforts under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, including road rehabilitation projects and rail initiatives such as the Lagos Blue Line, noted that these efforts had often been marred by delays, incomplete execution, and unequal distribution of benefits and, therefore, called for a shift towards broader-based development.

“While we acknowledge some infrastructure strides under the present APC government, these efforts have often been marred by delays, incomplete execution, and unequal distribution of benefits.

"Persistent traffic gridlock, rising living costs, inadequate affordable housing, and insufficient job creation remain serious concerns affecting many Lagosians daily.

"Lagos deserves more than selective flagship projects; it requires holistic, inclusive prosperity that benefits all social classes, locations, and communities," he said.

Oshodi, while further expressing the group's support, ahead of 2027 governorship race, said Adeoye had demonstrated excellence in real estate development, delivering high-quality and sustainable housing schemes in the private sector.

According to him, his expertise in urban planning, innovation, and private-sector efficiency uniquely positions him to tackle Lagos’ core developmental challenges effectively, assuring that "under a Laja Adeoye administration, Lagosians can expect a massive affordable housing revolution driven by partnerships and innovative financing models."

"This approach will address housing deficits, reduce slum proliferation, and expand access to decent housing for low- and middle-income earners," he said.

Besides, Oshodi said he was confident that Adeoye would prioritise economic diversification by developing sectors such as technology, tourism, agriculture, and industrial clusters, noting that such initiatives would generate sustainable jobs and reduce over-dependence on Federal Allocations and oil revenues.

LPG spokesperson further assured that Adeoye’s leadership would also promise enhanced transportation systems, including expanded rail networks, improved BRT operations, and smart traffic management solutions.

He said these measures would significantly reduce commuting challenges and improve productivity across the state.

On education and healthcare, Oshodi said the sectors would receive strategic investments to improve access, quality, and outcomes, adding that vocational training, digital education, and modern healthcare infrastructure would be prioritised under Adeoye’s leadership.

Oshodi stressed the state’s need for improved security through community policing, technology-driven surveillance, and transparent governance systems, just as he equally highlighted environmental sustainability, including waste-to-wealth initiatives and climate-resilient infrastructure, as key priorities.

While noting that the group had been at the vanguard of advocating full local government autonomy to strengthen grassroots governance and improve service delivery across communities, Oshodi, however, called on opposition parties, civil society groups, and Lagos residents to rally behind Adeoye’s candidacy.

He said that the LPG’s vision was to build a Lagos where prosperity is inclusive, sustainable, and beneficial to all residents, irrespective of background.
