The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has condemned in the strongest terms the planned terrorist attacks targeting the residents of Ira, Inaja, Aho and some other communities in Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State, declaring that the time for Federal Government, the state and relevant security agencies to act to foil the planned attacks was now.
It would be recalled that the faceless terrorists, in a threat letter they allegedly dropped at Ira market, threatened to strike soon.
The Yoruba generalissimo expressed this concern in a statement, copy of which was made available to newsmen on Wednesday, saying that the alarming threat had heightened fear among the people of the towns, who now faced the grim prospect of violence and insecurity in their daily lives.
Iba Adams, therefore, called on the Federal Government, the Kwara State government and relevant security agencies to act now without further delay by taking proactive action to foil the planned attacks and protect the affected communities.
"I urge the Federal Government and the state government to intensify security measures, enhance intelligence sharing, and deploy adequate resources to prevent these attacks and protect innocent lives," he said.
The Yoruba generalissimo also enjoined the security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other relevant paramilitary bodies in the Southwest to intensify patrols and surveillance in Ira and the adjoining communities.
"Recent intelligence and credible reports at our disposal have revealed that terrorist groups are orchestrating coordinated attacks aimed at inflicting harm, spreading fear, and destabilising the peace of communities in parts of the Southwest," Adams said.
He noted that such planned acts of violence were unacceptable, saying that they constituted a grave threat to the safety, security, and wellbeing of the people.
Iba Adams, while denouncing the planned attacks, further called on all residents of the communities mentioned in the said letter to remain vigilant and united in the face of the threat, saying that was imperative that "we collaborate closely with security agencies and other relevant authorities, to identify and report any suspicious activities promptly."
