The Osun State Governorship Candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dr Najeem Salam, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of denying his party’s polling agents the right to monitor the election at the various polling units, especially in Ejigbo and in other 10 local government areas of the state.
Salam raised this concern while speaking with newsmen after casting his vote at his polling unit in Ejigbo Local Government on Saturday, saying that his party’s agents were denied tags to monitor the election.
The ADC standard bearer, however, disclosed that he had reported the matter to the authority who assured him that they would look into it.
According to him, this "becomes necessary because when they are counting votes, it will be necessary for our agents to be at the polling units."
"If you don’t have party agents, you know what it means. And all our agents’ names were uploaded to the platform of the INEC. I don’t know why they are denying our agents access to the polling units.
"INEC requested for parties to upload names of party’s agents and we did that. I don’t understand why our party’s agents will not be given tags," he said.
On his chances in the election, Salam expressed confidence and trust in God of emerging victorious if election is free, fair and devoid of rigging and manipulation.
Speaking on the vote buying that caused violence in Ejigbo, Salam said, "We are not into vote buying. We have campaigned. That is exactly what we have done, that is what we believe in. We don’t buy votes. People should decide, and I think it will be fair for them to choose whoever they want as the governor."
